From the main Login page, enter your username and password. Please refer
to your "welcome email" for the correct web site address, username
and password to use.
The Main View will be displayed after logging in. The first time
you open the web interface, it will take a moment to download the site
content, but your browser will start caching this information and the
entire site will speed up dramatically on each future use.
Click the checkbox for "Save as Default" to have your
username stored in a local cookie and automatically entered every time
you Login.
Click the checkbox for "Use Original
Interface" if you wish to use the "Mozilla" version
of the FilesAnywhere interface (same interface that is used for non-IE
browsers). The original interface works with more web browsers,
including the Mac.
If you have problems logging in, please contact the Help
Desk (immediate assistance is offered during business hours).

For your own security, click the "Log
Off" button when you are done. It only takes an extra second,
but signing out will terminate the session connection to the FilesAnywhere web service. This prevents unintended
use of your account from your PC and closes all account resources on the
web server. This is not required, but we recommend signing out each time
you are done.
More Information
When you are finished with your current session, it's a good habit to Log
Off. This closes your open connection with the server, which is important
for your security. It prevents another user from accessing your account,
especially if you are working on a computer that is shared with other
users. This also clears resources that are normally reserved on our server
to maintain your active session.
Your session remains open in the background even if you move on to visit
other websites, until you Log Off or shutdown your web browser. You can
return to FilesAnywhere using the BACK button on your browser and
continue where you left off. If you do not Logout, and leave your computer
unattended, it is possible for someone else to use the computer to return
to your open server session.
For this reason, we have implemented an Automatic Log Off security feature
to close your session automatically after a very long pause in activity,
in case you forget to Log Off. After the Automatic Log Off, any attempt
to connect with the web site from your earlier browser session will cause
a Session Timeout warning to be displayed. After you press OK on the Session
Timeout warning, the home page will be shown, where you can Login again
to reopen the session with the server.

Follow these steps to copy files from any local computer you are using
to your FilesAnywhere
remote drive:
Basic Steps: How to Upload
Select how many files
you wish to upload, from the dropdown list, up to 20 files.
Click the "Browse"
button, then select any local file. The path to the local file you picked
will appear next to the Browse button.
Repeat for as many
files as you wish.
Press the "Upload"
button to copy the files you choose to the remote folder you selected
on the left.
The "Uploading"
progress page appears and will remain open until the file transfer is
complete.
When the transfer
is done, the Main View will be refreshed and your uploaded files will
appear on your remote drive.
Upload
Time Depends on Connection Speed. Uploads from home are almost
always slower than office connections.
If you have any trouble
uploading a large file, try a smaller file first to gauge the time needed.
Use the Multi-Upload tab for improved uploading of multiple files, and
folders.

Detailed Steps: How to Upload a File
Into a New Remote Folder
1. Create a new folder
Select the top root
folder by moving your mouse over the top-most folder and clicking on it.
This folder is named the same as your Login id. This root folder will
appear to be highlighted with a different background color when it is
selected.
Right-mouse click
on this selected folder to reveal the pop-up menu and click on the "New
Folder" (or click the "New Folder" toolbar button, which
appears as a folder with a star in the corner).
Type in a name for
the new folder and click OK or press Enter.
The screen will refresh
in a moment and the new folder will be added underneath the selected folder.
You may have to scroll down to the new folder if you have other folders
that are alphabetically sorted before the folder you just created.
The new folder is
selected (highlighted) by default. If it is not, for any reason, then
select the new folder to designate this folder as the destination folder
for the file you are about to upload.
Note: if you do not select a destination
folder before uploading, the file will be uploaded into the top-level
root folder. From there, you can move the file into a subfolder later.
Copying and moving files in FilesAnywhere works like the Windows File Explorer.
2. Upload the file
Make sure the "Upload"
tab is the tab open, to the right of the folder list. If it is not, select
the "Upload" tab, then select the destination folder. You may
use Multi!Upload as well, but if you have not uploaded a file before,
the Upload tab is the easiest to use.
Click the first "Browse..."
button in the center of the screen.
Navigate the folders
on your local computer and find the file you wish to upload.
Select the file you
wish to upload and click the "Open" button to select the file.
The complete path
to the local file will be displayed.
You may repeat the
steps above for the other file boxes if you wish to upload more than 1
file, but try 1 file first.
Click the Upload
arrow button to the left of the first file box to begin the upload process.
3. Check the Results of the Uploaded File
During the upload
process, a progress indicator will display the percentage of the file
that is already uploaded. This refreshes about every 15 seconds, after
the initial file is prepared for upload. The larger the file, the longer
it will take before this progress is first displayed.
If your file does
not show any progress within the first 1 minute, try the upload process
again using a small file, to find out if this is an issue with the file
size.
After the file upload
is done, a message box will be displayed showing the upload was successful.
The folder list will
be refreshed and your uploaded file will appear within the folder you
had selected before the upload.
Note: if you have trouble uploading a simple file as described
above, make sure you are using the latest version of Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer 5.5 is the minimum web browser supported by FilesAnywhere.
Also, current Microsoft Windows versions for PCs are the only operating
systems supported by FilesAnywhere.
Follow these steps to download copies of any files from your FilesAnywhere remote drive to any local computer you are
using:
Select a file then
click the Download toolbar button.
Choose "Save"
to save a copy of the file on your local PC. Choose "Open" to
open the file after downloading.
The file will begin
to download.
The time needed to
finish the transfer is completely dependent on your bandwidth to the Internet
and the level of server activity. Because FilesAnywhere has an extremely high-capacity connection
to the Internet, transfer rates will not normally be effected by other
users. For cable modem, DSL, or other broadband users, downloading a 1MB
file will typically take 10 seconds or less. If you are using a modem,
please be extremely patient, since file transfers can take a long time
over slow connections. Use Zip!Download to download multiple files,
folders, or for any large files that are not already compressed. Click
the Multi-Download tab to find out more.
Use the Zip!Download tab for advanced downloading
features, including multiple-file and multiple-folder downloads.
Multi-Download,
Zip!Download, Search, Multi-Delete
All
four features are available from this multi-purpose tab. Click
on the tab named "Multi!Download/Search ". Build a list of files
by either searching for files by filename, or adding files and folders
individually from your remote folders. Once you have list of files put
together, select the files you wish to download, delete, or combine. Take
one of three actions on the selected files: "Zip!Download All Selected"
(single or multiple files), "Download File" (single file), Delete
(single or multiple files), or Advanced (any selection). Note: You need to select the files from the
list box before continuing with the chosen action, except Advanced.
Files may be multi-selected by clicking with the control key pressed,
or choose "Select All Files in List" to select all of them.
Download File
will download the selected file (single file selection only).
Zip!Download
will download the selected files by automatically creating a single
Zip file that is downloaded. Once you have this Zip file on your local
computer, you may decompress it using a tool such as WinZip. Note: there is a
100MB limit to the size of the Zip file, to preserve optimal server performance.
Delete
will permanently delete all selected files. Use this feature carefully,
since deleting multiple files at once can lead to accidental deletion.
This feature is useful for cleaning up old files on your remote drive,
leaving you more space to upload new files.
Advanced
will open the Advanced File Browser for the selected folder. The Advanced
File Browser allows for more flexible queries of files and folders, and
actions for Version Control
(Force Checkout and Undo Checkout). The Advanced File Browser is not quite
as direct for simple actions involving a Search , therefore it is not
the default view for searching.
Note: when the Multi!Download
button is pressed from the toolbar or right-mouse menu, the selected file
or folder will be zipped and downloaded automatically, without the need
to open the Multi!Download tab with file selections. Use this feature
if you already have just one file or one folder to download in entirety.
This feature is also very useful if you wish to download your entire FilesAnywhere
drive contents in one action.
First select a
folder from the file/folder tree that you wish to change.
Choose any of the
options in the Toolbar or Right-Click Menu.
For example, to Move
a folder click the Move button and
enter the new path.
Click New Folder
to create
a folder underneath the folder you had selected.
Tip: If a file is selected when you click New Folder, the new folder
will appear on the same folder level as the selected file.
The browser screen
will turn completely white for a moment while it refreshes the new folder
listing. This is necessary to reload the revised folder settings from
the server.

E-Send
Use this feature to instantly send up to 4 files to any other user, with
confirmation of delivery. Files sent using E-Send will appear in
the recipient's File Inbox when they next Login to FilesAnywhere or refresh their current session. This
creates a copy of the original file, so any further changes to your file
will not be reflected in files sent using E-Send . Note: Use
GroupShare or File Share if you would like to share real-time links to
your actual files.
Select a remote file
on the left you wish to send.
Click the Send
Files toolbar button to
view the sending options, the same option is available from the right-mouse
menu.
Choose E-Send
to send remote or local files directly to other FilesAnywhere users with instant delivery confirmation.
After upgrading to a standard account, you can send an unlimited number
of files. The recipient will be limited to their remaining FilesAnywhere space.
You
will receive a delivery confirmation when the copy of your file is available
in the other users' FilesAnywhere Inbox.
Email Options
Use the "Email Remote File" and "Email Local File"
options to send files as email attachments to any email recipient.
Files can be attached from your remote drive, or from your local
hard drive and uploaded before sending. Note: Internet mail servers
limit most email file transfers to 2 megabytes or less. We recommend
the File Share option unless you need to send an attachment.
File Share is a fantastic feature that allows you to share files with
anyone, even if they are not FilesAnywhere users. FilesAnywhere makes sharing files fast and hassle-free!
Simply provide the email addresses of the people you would like to share
files with. An email will be sent containing a simple link to download
the files you are sharing.
Select a remote file
on the left that you wish to share.
Click the Send
Files toolbar button to
view the file sending/sharing options; the same option is available from
the right-mouse menu.
Choose the File
Share option to share files via a link sent through email.
Follow the prompts
for the email address, message, and optional password.
Add as many files
as you wish to share. There are limits per 24-hours on how many
total shared files can be accessed. These limits are determined
by your account size (a 100mb account can provide access to 10 shared
file links per day). This limit is visible on the File Share page, showing
you how many file sharing links are still available to be used as of the
current time. In most cases, you will not be affected by this daily limit,
unless you use this feature constantly with large distributions.
An email will be
sent and recipients will click on a link in the email to directly download
your shared files.
Note:
To share entire folders of files, refer to the GroupShare
feature.
Detailed Help on the FileShare Feature
Back
to Top
Now you can organize your files in unlimited
ways! Using FileViews, you create links to the actual files and folders
using a new hierarchical structure that you create. You can work within
the new structure, and all of your files within the FileView are linked
to the original locations. Create FileViews with customized, linked content
and share with other FilesAnywhere users.
How to Define
a New FileView
1. Expand the "FileViews" main folder.
2. Select the "MyViews" folder.
3. Right-click on the MyViews folder, then click
"New Folder"
(or use the toolbar).
4. Enter a name for the new FileView (long names are supported).
5. Enter an optional description.
6. Press Save. Linking Files and Folders
The power behind FileViews begins when you link your existing files
and folders into the new virtual structure. Linking files and folders
is simple, just drag-and-drop
any file or folder into the FileView nodes.
How to Link Files to a File View (this creates a "pointer"
to your files, in the FileView):
Expand the FileView
and any Nodes where you wish to create links to your files.
Under your account
root directory, expand the physical folder that contains the files or
folders you wish to link into your FileView.
Using your left mouse
button, click on a file and keep the mouse button pressed.
Keeping the mouse
button down, move your mouse over the destination FileView node.
Release the mouse
button over the selected destination. This will create a link to the file
or folder.

Version Control
gives you better control over your files and how they are updated or accessed.
Version Control
allows multiple people to collaborate on files more effectively as
a group, and automatically creates a separate backup
copy of each file you update. Version control
protects against unintended, simultaneous edits to the same files, and
also tracks each new file version so there is a complete history of changes.
Version Control
Options
Enable Checkin/Checkout: Supports multi-user file editing
and Checkin/Checkout tracking
File History Logging: Provides
a history of all file versions, backup
copies of versions, and Delete Protection
Delete Protection:
If File History is enabled, whenever users delete files within
that folder FilesAnywhere automatically creates a separate backup
copy of the file or folder being deleted and places this copy into the
Version History Repository under a "Deleted Items" folder.
This setting is automatic, as long as File History is turned on within
the folder.
Disable Delete: Prevents all
deletion of files in any designated folder
Email Notifications: Email
reports triggered by file folder updates
Enabling
Version Control
Select any folder
where you would like to enable Version Control.
Right-Click on
the folder to show the right-mouse menu.
Choose Properties
to open the folder properties screen.
Check one or
more options within the Version Control
section (see screen sample below).
Click Save to
apply the new setting. Subfolders will be enabled automatically.
Use GroupShare
if you would like to share your folder with other users.
Important
Note: Files will only be tracked AFTER
File History or Checkout is enabled.
Files that were already in the folder at the time these features are
turned on will not be copied into the Version History Repository or the
Checkout History.
