SUMMARY

This FilesAnywhere Desktop Application for Mac makes it easy to upload, download, and send files of any size, directly from your Mac desktop, using your FilesAnywhere account. 
 
This application will save you time, give you more control over your files.  The interface is really easy to use!  All of your uploads using the FA Desktop application are available on your FilesAnywhere online account when you login from any other computer.

INSTALLATION

Download the setup program from our website for the application called "FilesAnywhere Desktop for Mac".  Please note that this will only work on Apple Macintosh computers (see the OS versions supported at the top of this page).

 1. Install the FilesAnywhere Desktop Application for Mac
     a. Click the link above to download FilesAnywhere Desktop for Mac.
     b. Once the application is downloaded, a setup program will open.
     c. Follow through the default steps and click close after installation is complete.
  Note:  FilesAnywhere Desktop for Mac will be saved to the Applications folder by default once installation is successful 

2. Start the Desktop Application
     a. Double Click on icon to activate Desktop Application Window.
     b. Enter your FilesAnywhere username and password once you are prompted.
     c. You will see the FA Desktop icon appear in your dock.
 Note:  You can choose to have this application remain in the dock by following these steps:
    1. Move your cursor over the icon in the dock.
    2. Press control + click.
    3. Choose "keep in dock"

HOW TO UPLOAD FILES

Upload files directly into your FilesAnywhere account from your desktop!

1. Double click on the FA Desktop Application icon on your desktop.

 

2.  Enter your FilesAnywhere account Username and Password.  You can set the login to "remember" your info, so you are not promoted next time.

 

Note for user of FilesAnywhere Private Site: you will need to prefix your username with your numeric Private Site ID number, followed by a colon (:). You can contact your site administrator or call the tech support line to obtain the correct Private Site ID number for your organization.  For example, if your Private Site ID is 999 and your username is ALPHAOMEGA, the username should be entered like this:  999:ALPHAOMEGA

 

Note::  Choose Action -> Login/Settings to adjust your settings in the future.

 

3.  From the menu bar, choose the 'Action' option and select 'Upload Files/Folders'

  Note:  You can also drag and drop a File (s) directly on the FilesAnywhere Desktop for Mac  icon.

4.  Browse your local machine to select the Files/Folders that you would like to upload.

  Note:  Double click on any folder to expand the folder to view subfolders.

5.  Once selected, click the 'Open' button in the FA Desktop Application Window.

 

6.  A new screen will appear, at this time browser your account to select the destination where you would like the files stored.

 

7.  Once destination folder is finalized Click "Upload File".  All files will be uploaded to your account into the specified folder.


Security:  The program uses only SSL communications, for completely secure, encrypted file transfers. No special firewall settings are needed usually, but if your firewall software gives a warning, you can allow this add-in to communicate using SSL port 443.

 

DRAG-AND-DROP TO UPLOAD

Uploading files to the Internet could not be easier!  Simply drag-and-drop files onto the FA Desktop icon, to upload them.  You will be prompted for the type of  upload you want to do:

HOW TO DOWNLOAD FILES

Download files easily from your FilesAnywhere account without going on the web! 

1. Double click on the FA Desktop Application icon on your desktop.

 

2. If you are prompted, enter your FilesAnywhere account Username and Password.  You can set the login to "remember" your info, so you are not prompted next time.

(Refer to the login instructions above in the Upload section for other important login information)

3.  From the menu bar choose the 'Action' option and select 'Download Files'.

 

4.  You will be connected to your account, at this time browse your FilesAnywhere Account to select the Files/Folders that you would like to download.

 

5.  Once selected, click the 'Download Files' button in the FA Desktop Application Window.

 

6.  A new screen will appear, at this time browser your local machine to select the destination where you would like the files to be saved.

 

7.  Once destination folder is finalized Click "Open".  All files will be downloaded onto your local machine into the specified folder.

HOW TO SEND FILES -- "SEND A FILESHARE LINK"

Send large files directly from your desktop! 

1. Double click on the FA Desktop Application icon on your desktop.

 

2. If you are prompted, enter your FilesAnywhere account Username and Password.  You can set the login to "remember" your info, so you are not prompted next time.

(Refer to the login instructions above in the Upload section for other important login information)

3.  From the menu bar choose the 'Action' option and select 'Send as a FileShare Link'

 

4. Select the files/folders you want to send. You can add as many files as you like to the list. 

5. Click "Open".  All files will be uploaded to your account and a web link will be created for use in an application of your choice. 

Security:  The program uses only SSL communications, for completely secure, encrypted file transfers. No special firewall settings are needed usually, but if your firewall software gives a warning, you can allow this add-in to communicate using SSL port 443.


Note:  You may choose to add a password the link for additional security.

 

6. If you choose to paste the FileShare link into an email, web page, blog, etc. ; Recipients will be able to access the files by clicking on the link.  Based on your account settings they will be able to view or download the files you have shared.

 

Note:  The files you selected to send do not need to remain on your local computer, since after the link is created, the files are saved in your online storage account and that is where your recipients download the files from when accessing the link in the email.


Default Settings:  You can change the default settings for File Share links by logging into your account on the web, and clicking the Profile button on the toolbar.  Click "FileShare Defaults" to change the default settings.  For example, you might want to change the View type to Media View, so recipients see thumbnails of picture files and view documents directly online; or check "Email notify me when FileShare links are used" to receive an email notification whenever a file is accessed.

 

BENEFITS OF SENDING A "FILESHARE LINK"

Speed:  Sharing files with other people does not get any faster or easier than this.  Using the FA Desktop app uploads the files from your computer and prepares a link to recipients, all in one step. You do not need to login to your account via the web browser -everything can be done directly from your desktop.  Also, once the file uploading stage is complete, recipients will get the email right away - there is no waiting for the files on the receiving email server.  Since the email is only a link, recipients access the link immediately and they can download the files that you have shared on-demand.

No Size Limit:  Send files of unlimited size (only limited by your total available space in your FilesAnywhere account). For example, you can easily send someone hundreds of files, several Gigabytes in size. Try that using plain email!  Many email servers will not handle files over 5MB or 10MB in size - this limitation can be encountered on the sending side or the receiving side of an email.  Use this feature to overcome all standard email limitations.

High Security:  Sharing files through the link is secure, whereas email attachments may not be.  Files are always uploaded from you and downloaded by your recipients using a 128-bit SSL encrypted channel (uses SSL version 3.0 with strong cipher strength). This is a completely secure connection between your computer and our server - the same used on banking websites.

File Tracking:  With regular email you can only request a read-receipt, which sometimes does not even work.  Using the 'Send as a FileShare Link' option, you can track the exact date and time when each file is accessed by the recipient.  Be notified via optional email notification, or have the system log the file access and see those records online when you login to your account.

Useful Features for Recipients:  Sharing Office or PDF documents, recipients can view your pages directly online, immediately, without waiting for files to download.  Sharing photos or graphics, recipients will see a photo album with thumbnails, and an online viewer for immediate picture viewing. Recipients can even click a Slideshow button and see a running slideshow of all pictures.  Sharing music or video, recipients can play the files you share in high-quality streaming format, for instant playing without a download.

Multi-Tasking:  Send a large file or a whole group of files using this application, and continue working on your machine while the files are uploaded.

 

More Information
The program will automatically check for any updates on our server when you choose to run it on your Mac.  If an update is available on our server, it will prompt you to install the update automatically.
