Handy Backup Expert mode allows advanced features such as Inclusion/Exclusion of identified file types, file compression, and blowfish encryption to be enabled on your backup task.
Our current network consists of direct connections to top-tier providers, UUNet, Sprint, Level 3, Global Crossing, Verio, Time Warner, Allegiance Telecom and AboveNet.
If the security of your transmission is a high priority, to prevent
interception we provide an SSL Login option
(secure.filesanywhere.com), which encrypts every packet transmitted
to and from our servers to your desktop. The SSL certificate is certified
by Verisign and provides a 1024-bit RSA key (this encryption is so strong,
it is predicted by RSA that this key would take 3 million years to break
using a $10 Million super computer with current technology). This security
is also used by banks and the US military to secure document transmission.
WebAdvanced plans are automatically encrypted via the web interface (https://backup.filesanywhere.com).
You can
also use SFTP in the Handy Backup for FilesAnywhere program to encrypt
your backup transmissions - important for sensitive data. To
do this, choose the SFTP option within the Storage tab of your backup
job definition.

1. Why is the transfer going so slow?
Your first backup is typically slower than all succeeding backups. This is due to the fact that the first backup is a Full Backup, and the succeeding backups are incremental which only backups changed data.
2.Why is the Progress Bar not Moving?
The progress bar is a bad indicator on Handy Backup software.
3.Why can't I open my files now that they are stored in my Account?
Usually this is to a blowfish encryption placed on files during upload through Handy Backup. You will need to use the Blowfish encryption password used to lock the file to be granted access to the particular file(s).
4. Why can't I log into my account?
Often times this is due to password issues. First make sure that your password is all lowercase. Second be sure that you are using the correct password, if you have changed your password on your Account, Handy Backup does not record the updated password. To validate that your login is successful, simply click on the small monitor icon to the right of the 'Location' field on the Step 3 task and be sure that you see '226 Transfer complete' at the bottom of the FTP script window.
5. Can I restore accidentally delete files?
Accidents do happen. Always check your local machine and your account for the file. You may utilize the search feature in both locations to help locate potentially lost files or folders. If the file/folder is not found, we do take 30-day-snapshots which we can attempt to recover the file from our database. There is a $20 charge for successful recovery.
For maximum security, use the combination of SFTP and Blowfish Encryption on files. Never give out your password, change your password at least every 90 days, select at least a 7-digit password with numbers and letters, and take precautions with your registered email address. Employees of the FilesAnywhere service are bonded by confidentiality agreements and do not have authority to view user files at any time without your expressed permission.
Note: If a Blowfish Encryption password is loss, there is no method of recovery. Please be sure to safely store the password for recovery once needed.
All account files are backed up at our data center
to a separate location. Because
of the way our backups are processed, we do not guarantee that we will
be able to restore a file version you have accidentally deleted (our backup
may only be a complete snapshot of the current live account state). However,
many times we can.
Your data is already protected in multiple ways and you can add measures
to protect your data even further against loss:
RAID5 redundancy on all storage drives ensures automatic "hot backup" in case of drive failure. Drive failure is the most likely problem to be encountered with any file storage. However, with RAID5 redundancy, an actual physical drive crash is completely unnoticed - we can "hot-swap" a physical drive and the files remain completely intact due to the "data striping" across the other drives.
In addition to RAID5, we keep a separate offline backup copy of your account for disaster recovery purposes. Therefore, we always have a complete secondary snapshot of your account data - in many cases we can recover a deleted file that was saved on your account earlier that day or from prior days, however our backup may only be a complete snapshot of the current live account state.
You do have the option to use the software we provide to automatically backup the entire set of files to your location, via a scheduled job. If you need to reliably restore prior file versions, we recommend taking multiple backups using Handy Backup, with staggered date ranges - for example, a daily, a weekly and a monthly backup - defined as separate backup item jobs in Handy Backup. This, running weekly and/or monthly, would give you a snapshot of all files as of the last backup rotation, in case you need to restore that file version.
If you are uploading files via the website, you can enable "Version History". This automatically retains a backup copy of each version of a file that is uploaded, and every time a file is deleted. This ensures a complete history of all files. Versions of files do subtract from your total available storage, but you have control over which folders have this enabled and how many versions to keep in rotation.
We provide options
for additional nightly and rotational secondary backups, as well as offline
media backups delivered in CD, DVD, or USB Harddrive format. Following
